Rural Housing Association and Woven Housing Association were delighted to support this year’s Strawberry Fair in Sion Mills, as part of the ‘Housing for All’ programme funded by the Northern Ireland Housing Executive.
Organised by a dedicated committee of local volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds, the Strawberry Fair continues to reflect a strong commitment to inclusivity and community spirit. With a clear focus on creating an event for everyone, regardless of background, the fair is a powerful example of Good Relations in practice.

A longstanding tradition in Sion Mills, the Strawberry Fair has been celebrated for decades. This year’s committee placed particular emphasis on capturing the heritage of the event while reinforcing its cross-community ethos. This was reflected in the carefully chosen programme of activities, including a performance from the Sion Mills Cross-Community Pipe Band, which celebrated shared culture and brought people together.

The event was attended by 100s of local people and provided a valuable opportunity to bring people together from across the community in a positive, welcoming environment. With a strong focus on inclusion and connection, the fair reflected the principles of Good Relations by encouraging participation, interaction and shared experiences among residents of all ages and backgrounds.
The sun shone on the day, which saw wide range of activities designed to appeal to everyone. Families enjoyed face painting, amusement rides and children’s entertainment, while the Sion Mills Cross-Community Pipe Band delivered a standout performance that celebrated local culture and heritage. A variety of food stalls also contributed to the vibrant atmosphere, creating a relaxed and sociable space for attendees.

Events such as the Strawberry Fair play an important role in strengthening community ties, promoting mutual respect and fostering a sense of belonging. By supporting initiatives like this, Rural Housing Association and Woven Housing Association are committed to building stronger, more cohesive communities where people feel connected and valued.
