As part of Good Relations Week 2025, Rural Housing Association and Woven Housing through funding from the Housing Executive’s ‘Housing for All’ programme and DCSDC’s Special Initiatives Fund were proud to host Voices Without Borders, a storytelling event celebrating diversity, empathy, and community connection.

The event worked with partners Western Health and Social Care Trust, Derry City & Strabane District Council, and the Housing Executive, to bring people together to listen, learn, and connect through the personal stories of refugees and asylum seekers who now call Northern Ireland home.
Guests heard moving stories from individuals and families from countries such as Syria, Yemen, Iran, Eritrea, and Kuwait, who shared how conflict and hardship had forced them to flee their home countries in search of safety. Their powerful testimonies reflected both the immense challenges they faced and the warm welcome they have received in Northern Ireland, where they are now rebuilding their lives and contributing to their new communities.

Through these honest and heartfelt conversations, Voices Without Borders helped to build empathy, challenge misconceptions, and celebrate the diversity that enriches our towns and villages across the region.

A huge thank you goes to the storytellers and table hosts for sharing their experiences with such honesty and courage, and to the Mayor of Derry City & Strabane District Council for attending and offering his support.
