As part of Good Relations Week 2020 Rural Housing Association hosted a community circus event in Sion Mills on 21st September (International Peace Day), as part of our Old Mill Court shared neighbourhood project.
To celebrate International Peace day 2020, we invited performers from In Your Space Circus to visit and perform within the grounds of Old Mill Court. The event provided an opportunity for tenants to socialise with their neighbours (whilst adhering to social distancing guidelines) at a time when those living in rural communities can feel socially isolated.
Old Mill Court provides an example of how outdoor residential spaces in towns and villages can be transformed into community spaces, where local residents can connect with their neighbours in a safe environment. The impact of such events in promoting inclusive and connected communities can not be underestimated, especially at a time when social interaction has been hugely impacted by COVID-19 social distancing measures.
As a Housing for All neighbourhood Rural Housing receive funding from the Department for Communities and the NI Housing Executive to deliver good relations focused activities aimed at building more connected and inclusive communities
