Sion Mills Diversity Project

Rural Housing Association has launched an exciting new diversity project for residents living within Sion Mills.

The Association has partnered with Sion Mills Community Forum and Sion Mills Community Association to deliver a series of educational craft boxes exploring cultures from around the world to over 80 families in the area.  Speaking at the launch, Rural Housing Association’s CEO Stephen Fisher commented “I am delighted that Rural Housing Association has been able to deliver this diversity project in these uncertain times. This is one of many activities that we have provided during the lockdown and I am sure that this celebration of culture and diversity will provide  a wide range of content to help promote mutual respect and understanding for other cultures.”

The diversity packs have been created by ArtsEkta, a leading cultural arts organisation that works to develop intercultural relationships at a community level across Northern Ireland.  The project provides families with the opportunity to learn about eight cultures from around the world through a series of diversity packs, which are delivered to their homes.  Each diversity pack contains arts & crafts, cultural fact sheets, recipes, and links to ArtsEkta’s online resources, all of which are aimed at increasing awareness of different cultures and promoting respect for diversity.  ArtsEkta’s CEO Nisha Tandon commented “ArtsEkta is delighted to be working alongside the Rural Housing Association in this fantastic diversity project. Creating opportunities for learning about cultural diversity through arts and creativity is at the heart of our organisation. As we continue to navigate our way through the current challenges providing access for creative learning for rural communities is extremely important”

This project has been funded through the Department for Communities and Northern Ireland Housing Executive’s Housing for All initiative.  ‘Housing for all’ schemes promote neighbourhoods that are inclusive, welcoming and safe places to live for all.
