Are You in Need of Social Housing in Maghery?

Rural Housing Association provides social housing in rural communities across Northern Ireland.  As part of Rural Housing’s commitment to building new homes in areas of housing need, we work in partnership with the Housing Executive to carry out rural housing needs tests to identify housing need within rural locations across Northern Ireland.  Over July and August we will be working alongside Dolores Kelly MLA and Cllr Eamon McNeill to launch a rural housing needs test in the village of Maghery.

The aim of these rural housing needs tests is to identify where there is a hidden need for social or affordable housing in rural communities.  Evidence suggests that often people living in rural communities who are eligible for social housing do not register with the Housing Executive due to the limited availability of social housing in rural communities or may register for a home in larger towns and cities even if their first preference may be to remain within smaller rural communities.  As a result, the Housing Waiting List is not always reflective of the true need for social housing in rural locations.

As part of the rural housing needs test, Rural Housing Association is encouraging people who are in housing need and who have not yet registered with the Housing Executive for a home in Maghery to come forward and register their interest by contacting the Housing Executive’s Rural & Regeneration Unit: Email: rural.housing@nihe.gov.uk  Phone: 028 9598 2502.

The demand test will remain open until Tuesday 31st August 2021.  If you are in need of social housing in the Maghery area, please register your interest during this period.

The aim of the test is to identify if there is a hidden need for social housing in the Maghery area. If enough need is identified there may be the potential to develop additional social/ affordable housing in the village.
